Naked UrbEx

Naked UrbEx from Purple T on Vimeo.
This is just a trial video of some naked urban exploration.

The main part of what i'm trying to do is art nude photography, in this case within the urban exploration style. I started using video and realised it could help me view different settings and poses, not just in the derelict building type settings, but anywhere i'm on my own trying to create art nude self portraits. I also started to see how i could possibly use the video itself as a part of the art.

A lot of this come from me having been a life model for over 20 years, mostly as my main job, so although i now have a different full time job, the use of the figure in photography is very important to me.

This is by no means the finished product. I want to try and find music that may fit, i think in this one it's reasonable, but maybe not perfect. I need to also think more about what to video and how to those clips together.
Sometimes i may want to show how i go about getting photos, and other times just show the exploration. For the moment it's all about experimenting and trying find something that works well, so please bear with me and maybe help me along the way.

Earth Wizard.......On Laundry Day!

The title is a description given by a viewer on Flickr. He also said on one of them that it was "like viewing the world through an enchanted snow globe....without the snow"
I really liked what he said. He's studying art and you can see his work on Flickr here

I took these using the same Lensbaby fisheye optic as in the "Chillin in the late winter sun" post.

Take My Hand!

I was looking for a slightly sinister look as i was wearing a mask. Although i like the image i think it needs something a bit more, such as a weapon of some kind, to really work as i wanted. As i was experimenting a bit at the time i later did a clothed photo using a knife that i think works well.

This is the clothed photo based on the above idea. It made quite a change to be putting clothes on rather than taking them off..

Chillin in the late winter sun...

A few weeks ago i wandered out on a sunny day. It was rare at that time as we'd had over three months of almost constant rain. Parts of England, though not around me) were badly flooded so a sunny day was something of a relief from it all.

I wandered around some woodland for a while. It was very calm and quiet so i took the chance to strip off and enjoy the warmth that was coming from the late winter sun that countered the chill in the air. It was good to feel the air on my body.

I also used this opportunity to try out a few arty nudes using the new Lensbaby fisheye optic i'd recently bought. Here's a couple that i think worked quite well.

In For The Kill!

This is the last of the recent photo shoot. It's one of the ones i had planned in my mind to do from when i first saw this graffiti.
It was great fun interacting with the graffiti. It helped generate a few ideas, and they could sometime be developed fro more photo shoots.

As with the others, this photo was made with the help of my good mate Gary, who can be found here.

Nude Art!

I saw this graffiti a few months ago. With over 20 years experience as a life model behind me i thought it'd be fun to do a photo where i mimic the pose. It's not possible to copy it perfectly, but this is kind of close....

To get the photo i had help from my good mate Gary who can be found here

Resting...

Yesterday i took advantage of a day off to wander about with the camera and try out a few new nude photos. I found this log to lay down against and managed to get a couple i liked.

My first thoughts for the photos were to be monochrome, and that's the first i'm adding. But i also like to try different looks and so the second is a colour version i quite like.

In the next photo i looked at the way i was laying It's a little awkward looking, not quite natural, almost like it's a body that has just been dumped there.
There's something about it that i liked...

Again i'm posting both the monochrome and colour versions.

My main photography blog cane be seen here.

Naked Shame!

I took these photos to represent how we are forced by society to hide away the human body. For those who are comfortable with the naked human body, we’re often treated as if it’s something shameful, or even worse, something disgusting. We can be treated like perverts for simply enjoying the pleasure of being free from clothes, to swim naked in the sea, or sit quietly in a park, or to enjoy the human form in art.
Surely the real perversion is to be offended by the human body!
I find that attitude offensive!

Forced to hang my hang head in naked shame!

Hiding my shameful nakedness!

Agonising over being forced to hide my nakedness!

Contemplating the great shame of my nudity!

Is my nakedness really so bad?
Will society ever let me be free?

Body in the dunes....

After a nice evening watching the setting sun at the beach, you walk through the dunes in the fading light and find this.....
Dead? Alive? What happened?

Pants!

So this was a real messing about photo to go with the last post. I realised Jo was snapping away as i walked very carefully on the sharp stones, so when i got to my clothes i decided to do a silly pose....

Just hangin out on the old railway....

So this is me doing a lighthearted shoot on a railway line with the help of my good mate Jo whilst i was visiting her recently. I pretty much set it up, and she worked the camera.

These were a bonus as we were actually out to view a different location.

Having done these i can now try and think of something a bit more arty and control the lighting better. Perhaps even go there at night next time i'm visiting the area.

Cold and wet for art!

Last summer i had a day out with a friend, Sam, to take photos. Along the way the conversation came around to my work as a life model. As the conversation developed she asked if i would pose for some photos, and the idea came about that we use a stream she knew of not too far away. Even in summer the fast flowing stream proved to be very cold, and fairly deep in one part i waded into.

I have to say that it's not easy to pose when slipping about on rocks, so what we ended up with was more of an impromptu, natural, and relaxed (though cold) set of photos.

In these three photos i did my own processing. The first, which is quite arty, i kept as simple monochrome. In the second i removed all colour but the green in the leaves. The third i got carried away and kept the green in the leaves, and the moss that was under the water, but i made it very vivid.

As an impromptu photo-shoot it was good fun.

At Rest....

It was a cold and damp November morning when i had a day out with a friend, Pixi, a few years ago with the intention of making art nude photos in the woods. We had ideas to try out, which gave us some good images, but we also tried out various things on the day and ended up with these photographs which i feel have a very nice and peaceful look to them.

Although not a photographer, Pixi has an artistic flare. I chose poses and offered advice, but she also had good input and chose compositions.

Despite it being cold and damp, i think i look very calm and relaxed. I think this had a lot to do with the way myself and Pixi felt very at ease and trusting around each other. This of course is important between any photographer and model, especially when doing nude work.

I'm posting both colour and black and white for the first photograph as i really like both. Which one i prefer seems to depend very much on my mood at the time.
The second photograph was always going to be black and white. I love the composition with the figure to one side.

Pinhole Camera and the Figure

A few years ago before i went digital i drilled a hole in the body cap of an old film camera that had a few minor faults. As it had a slightly sticky shutter the plan was to use it as a pinhole camera. For various reasons i never got round to it. I dug it out recently and realised that with a bit of Blue Tac i could stick it on the front of my DSLR.
The results have been a bit mixed, especially outdoors in the sun as i think i'm getting too much light leaking in, but i tried some nudes indoors using just window light. The results lacked contrast but are quite nice in a very subtle way. I've processed some and kept that lightness and lack of contrast. I made a couple of versions, one toned and one black and white. Then i tried boosting the contrast in some, which i think works quite well.

Here's a selection showing the light subtle versions that i toned.....

Here's a few of the black and white, and higher contrast versions...and one toned but with a little vignetting.
